SCIENCE WEEK - ELECTRICITY & INVENTIONS!
We loved Science Week!! Exploring and investigating electricity, science workshops with a visiting scientist, and designing and making our own electrical inventions. Click on each photo to see a large version.
TERM 3 - WATER, WATER EVERYWHERE!
chinese new year & dragon day
We made origami dragon eyes based on mythical Chinese water dragons. We used oil pastels to blend the colours and to create bold effects. The eyes open and close when they are pushed. Some of us chose to make Chinese dragons using wool and chalk pastels.

TERM 2 - THE VICIOUS VIKINGS!
To celebrate all the incredible work that we did for our Viking topic, year 4 invited our parents to come and visit our Viking Museum. This was an opportunity to showcase all our hard work as well as sharing our newfound history knowledge about the Vikings. We also invited the year 2 children to come and visit the museum. They said that they were looking forward to being in year 4 in the future!
science sound day
Year 4 had a whole day of science which we spent learning all about sound. We explored how we make sounds, how it travels, how we can change sounds and how to make different instruments. Finally, we had to make a Viking horn to send a warning. We made air horns using some simple equipment. They were surprisingly loud!
Viking boat construction challenge…
To launch our Viking topic, year 4 constructed a Viking longship out of cardboard boxes and other bits of waste cardboard. Everyone took part and had a role to play in their teams, with each team being responsible for designing and building a specific part of the longship. The whole thing took the whole year group an hour and a half to complete! We were incredibly proud of our achievement and amazing team effort. The Vikings are coming!!
DIWALI BOLLYWOOD DANCING WORKSHOP AND PERFORMANCE
On Thursday, Year 4 took part in a Diwali Bollywood dance workshop. In the morning, both classes learnt a routine which we then put together and then performed to our parents at the end of the day. In the afternoon, we also learnt four different dance moves which we then choreographed into our own dances in small groups. This was really hard! We finished our choreographed routines on Friday morning and filmed them. We even added in some of our own dance moves to them! Finally, we also performed our Bollywood dance to the whole school. We think everyone really enjoyed it!

SOCK BUNNIES IN DESIGN TECHNOLOGY
We designed and made our own sock bunnies in Design Technology. To do this we had to learn how to sew using a needle and thread as well as some basic stitches. We enjoyed the challenge of making our sock bunnies and all felt very proud of them at the end! Finally, we made them some homes and different scenes to play in out of junk modelling.
Freeze Frames in english
We have been exploring our class book, ‘The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane’ by Kate DiCamillo, using ‘freeze frames’ and ‘thought taps’ to help us plot the story. We had to think about what the characters were doing and how they were feeling. We used our bodies to try and show what each character was doing for different scenes in the chapter. Next, we said how they were feeling, or what they were thinking, for our ‘thought taps’. Then we ordered our freeze frames to tell the story. We were very good at acting as the characters!
