Reception
Welcome to Reception!
Panda Class
At Redfield, we see our Early Years provision as the essential starting point for every child’s learning journey. It lays the groundwork for the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that children will build on throughout their time at school.
Our Early Years curriculum is closely linked to our whole school curriculum, ensuring a strong and meaningful progression from the very beginning. While we strive to align our themes and key concepts, we also recognise that Early Years is a unique and dynamic phase of education. Children learn best through play, exploration and responding to their interests, so our approach remains flexible to meet their developmental needs.
This balance between structure and responsiveness ensures that our youngest learners receive both a firm foundation and the freedom to thrive.
Below, you can find our Early Years Curriculum Plan, which shows how we nurture curiosity, develop core skills, and set children up for future success.

We believe that children should learn in an engaging, happy, enabling and challenging environment. All of our staff feel passionate about allowing our children to have space and time to explore their own interests and fascinations, and we play alongside them to observe, scaffold and teach in the moment. Please have a look at our Tapestry Workshop powerpoint in the downloads below to familiarise yourself with our online journal.
During the children’s transition time to Redfield, we want your children’s experience of school to be full of nurture and excitement for learning.
In Reception, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum using Birth to Five Matters to support our teaching and monitoring. Also, to support the children with their learning skills, their friends and wellbeing we use the Characteristics of Effective Learning, which helps us to have a more holistic picture of the children. You can look at the Early Years Framework below.
